ARC Homeless Solution Ideas Addendum: Out of the Dots Thinking

Thinking outside the box (also thinking out of the box or thinking beyond the box and, especially in Australia, thinking outside the square) is a metaphor that means to think differently, unconventionally, or from a new perspective. This phrase often refers to novel or creative thinking.

Thinking outside the box - Wikipedia

For over a decade I worked with the homeless.

There are better humanistic and economical solutions than currently considered by municipalities.

Well-meaning advocacy groups are puzzled why shelter beds are empty; programs purported to change cycle fail.

One successful paradigm are sober living environments.

I am beseeching luminary thinkers to pay close attention so that in turn can advise `those in power’ to grasp the phenomenal potential of solving the homeless problem once and for all.

August 2023

I have been on massive action emailing Homeless Solution Ideas to government representatives, secular/non-secular groups, reporters, nonprofits, et al.

With my experiential and academic experience, I am convinced that the root problem of homelessness will not be solved unless empathy is felt by one/all – in other words, image it is you, your parents, siblings, CHILDREN!!!

Over half the homeless have addiction problems.

They do not get well in `programs’ that are like a revolving door.

They need what I explicitly detail that the Healing House has provided.

Regarding families, it is impossible to `rent’ on subsidy allotted by the government.  When our immigrants first arrived, there were communities set up to help…Catholic, Jewish, Protestant – Irish, Italian, German.

It is no different now.  We need large social/medical/legal centers to help the homeless through the MAZE of eligible benefits.

Out of the dot thinking would be:

Setting up a brand-new city like we did Las Vegas!

Setting up cruise homeless ships like a city!  I wrote about this sometime ago; now: yeah – a newsworthy feature.

https://www.insider.com/cruise-ships-turned-into-hotels-shelters-reefs-photos-2023-7

I am distraught at the callousness of government that is forcing homeless with cars/RV’s to `move’ instead of actually helping with expenses to get them into a mobile park, save `camping’ environment.

         SHELTERS ARE DANGEROUS FOR WOMEN!

SHELTERS DO NOT ALLOW PETS THAT ARE REALLY EMOTIONALLY SUPPORT ANIMALS – SAFE PROTECTORS.

HOW do the Homeless locate facilitates for basic common decency needs?

         Where are the bathrooms?

         Where are the showers?

Where can they wash their clothes?

         Are our words a farce?

         YES!

         They were

COVID, CLIMATE CHANGE, POVERTY has us searching for answers.

`We’ know that our mother planet earth is threatened with extinction.

`We’ know that our mother planet earth is threatened with overpopulation.

`We’ know that our societies are threatened with increasing division over poverty among citizens, lack of employment, and immigration by countless who too desire: life, liberty, pursuit of happiness.

         FIRST THINGS FIRST:

         POVERTY/IMMIGRATION…

         How do we support?

         Right now, solutions are incarceration!

Based on FY 2019 data, the average annual COIF for a Federal inmate in a Federal facility in FY 2019 was $35,347 ($107.85 per day).Sep 1, 2021

$588 a day

The youth incarceration data is from the Justice Policy Institute's report, Sticker Shock 2020: The Cost of Youth Incarceration that found that the average cost of locking up youth is $588 a day while effective community-based programs, providing individualized and wraparound services, can cost as little as $75 a day.

So, it is a choice and an option:  Cruise ship/RV parks without any substance and strict metropolis rules (think like Homeowners Associations have) and/or simply set up HOMELESS CENTERS like we have SENIOR CENTERS and COMMUNIAL UNITS like motels: bedroom/bath/tv/microwave – center communal kitchen.

ALERT…the ultimate goal regarding homeless is not SHELTER, but PROGRESS.

Think of the homeless like it `takes a village’ to raise a child.

The child needs EDUCATION, TRAINING, LOVE, SUPPORT, CHALLENGES, POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT…

On a military base, all the necessities are provided, PLUS EDUCATION/TRAINING.

THE COVID PANDEMIC facilitated phenomenal new ways for education:  ZOOM MEETINGS, YOU TUBE HOW TO INSTRUCTIONS.

DO YOU REMEMBER THE CONCEPT OF QUILTING BEES?

A group together creatively joins together and makes something awesome and USEFUL!

DO YOU KNOW WHY A.A. MEETINGS WORK?

Together, individuals become a brother/sister hood of caring/sharing experiences that contribute to mental, social, and physical well-being.

In my experience what hinders any successful growth is:

Alcohol, Marijuana, Narcotics of any kind – Smoking.

In other words, if there is a homeless person who needs medical marijuana, there has to be a separate facility so that it does not interfere and/or tempt the other.

         Creative work ideas are needed.

Individuals `love to see their name’ so personalized is highly recommended that could be `made’ and `ordered’ and `shipped’.

TED TALKS SHOULD BE PART OF EDUCATION…

https://www.ted.com/talks

We ask that you keep talks within a time limit of 18 minutes to uphold TED's celebrated format of concise and enlightening talks. This short talk model works, since it only demands the audience's attention for a short period of time. In fact, some of our greatest TED Talks have been as short as 5 minutes long!

Why do we need to keep talks within 18 minutes? - TED

TED

https://help.ted.com › en-us › articles › 36003866935...

TED talks for 18 minutes affirm what I learned when I operated the Children’s Schoolhouse.  Switching activities from passive to active within half-hour period eliminates boredom, succors’ best energy/attention for experience.

Fascinating that I learned this at the tender young age of eight.  I was Mom’s `right hand/arm’ literally.  She had polio as a youngster resulting in crippled feet that all her life was chronic pain.  She would call me to hold onto my arm when she needed to walk someplace.  I was the first daughter to live after three boys.  Work was introduced to me as young as seventeen months when my baby sister was put in my arms and I was told: I was the 2nd mother.  Mom’s success with me was phenomenal for I never knew I was `working’ for her praise uplifted me: helping her was joy!

But the older I got; discovered I had a PASSION FOR READING.  How to find more time became solvable when I learned to pair…half hour `work’, half hour `reading’.  In higher academic years learned that this was a popular psychological concept too.

Thus, I am advocating…cruise ship, home, shelters, - schedules need to be in place for efficiency/comfort.  Think high school periods which moved easily from one to another.

Also, extremely positive would be `electronic entertainment’ is reward at the end of the `work’ day.

In addition to the creative idea of `homeless city ships’, and `homeless mobile parks’, serious ecological planning must be done to subsidize `homeless new cities’ in areas similar to where Las Vegas was built up with all the infrastructure necessary just like a military base and to `justify’ it all – all homeless are now part of a `Civilian Peace Corps’ administered like a `branch’ of the military!
