The way I understand it, `of…by…for the people’;
we agreed social contract for betterment of all.
Laws made: equality, fairness, justice, and well-being;
inalienable rights promoted pursuit of happiness call.

Although evolution favored survival of fittest;
moral ethics inspired protection for vulnerable.
Prejudice was not to be in equation;
equal status for all to be lovable.

Ethnicity, sex, color, strong, weak were same;
each treated with dignity, respect, protection.
Alas, reality opposite vision utopia;
words greater than existential complexion.

In theory, principle is easy to fathom;
taxes should be fair, just for community good.
Instead capitalistic power lust for money;
selfish siren song versus striving for sainthood.
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer;
negative traits: pride, greed, lust, and other dominate.
Yet there are righteous who walk clarion call;
Gandhi, King, Lincoln, Teresa, and other incarnate.

Follow the leader… is children’s game;
we pick them through political process.
Where or where are they constant prayer;
Dear God, inspire saints on earth and bless.
