Family Ode

Family Ode
© January 4, 2013

Eight in heaven, four on earth -
eldest mid-70s and ill -
me: survivor of murderous assault,
two younger - all twilight years -
reviewing familial memories from birth.

They were beckoning -
as I was crossing death’s door -
awesome welcoming party,
all on shore -
but I returned for reckoning.

In coma Mom intoned N A M E S -
pierced together metaphysical meaning -
Prayer Warrior assignment to proliferate,
La Fenice, reborn Phoenix -
lighting individual/generic flames+

I hear myself call out to mother -
M o m - poignant wail for comfort -
same for dad,
retarded sister -
eldest and closest brother.

I pray, muse, ponder, enjoy, reflect -
seasons of my past lamenting sins -
searching for virtues that justify,
eclectic life resonate of classics -
birthing connections that intersect.

Deviated from course set by parents/church -
180 degree turn towards liberal feminism -
volcanic equality envy ruled my soul,
independent, educated, accomplished
defined pilgrim’s progress search.

Writing works in progress lapsed -
focus shifted to social communion need -
people who involve people luckiest in world,
reciprocity energy transfusion
necessary before physical collapsed.

Universe communion is heaven’s manna -
past, present, future time flows in continuum -
psychic energy connects to one/all,
caring/sharing/receiving/giving/
blessing unification enriching divine karma.
