ARC
I recently saw movie GOLDA:
she is one of my multiple role models.
Daily in my prayers, along with the others:
luminary kith/kin universal sisters/brothers.
Glaring, woman world leader peer chain smoking:
brilliant, radiation for cancer, yet one after another:
Visible testimony who do not understand addiction:
analogous to diabetic needing insulin, is an affliction.
Of course, movie showed it was just not her, but all:
smoking norm my salad years – almost everyone did.
No health awareness back then of insidious nature:
expose’ and outcry culminated in 1965 legislature.
Contemporary Call the Midwife PBS series is superb:
depicts England following WWII – smoking common.
Illustrates `across the board’ from doctors to laborer:
everyone smoked: family, friend, associate - neighbor.
Bill W. famous founder of Alcoholics Anonymous:
cigarette addiction was never able to overcome.
Lacking in empathy are the `holier than thous’:
first seeking aspirin for headache between brows.
I became involved with sheltering homeless addicts:
nonprofit I founded 1968 switched from little to big.
Children Schoolhouse was my forte two decades:
no clue about horror whose life like living hades.
1990 displaced showcased constantly in media:
empathy imagined crippled mother/retarded sister.
Divine guidance, state seminar on helping homeless:
addiction was the leading conclusion and diagnosis.
They would help subsidize nonprofit involvement:
epiphanic course shifted from little to adult care.
Zero comprehension in experience or college:
on site learning was to be in vivo knowledge.
Three years experiential taught me good/bad/ugly:
brink of foreclosure for government failed oath.
Nonprofit home base not allowed assembly said:
Mother’s death inheritance saved home instead.
Picture convict with ball/chain around their foot:
Monkey On Your Back also visual to define burden.
Society has compassion for disease like epilepsy:
but addicts like pariahs by those with ablepsy.
It took three solid years for me to get a grip:
primary exponential learning from guests.
We need meetings/sponsors/family households:
reconstruct ourselves into healing sober molds.
By end of decade, ARC was very successful:
some sponsored to set up similar elsewhere.
Then populace reared up others ineffective:
peers managing failed considerate objective.
Forced to leave resulted in shifting priority:
tme to write/care/share experience/how to.
Prospect arose after five years to start again:
in birth state help homeless & veteran men.
I networked with civic/religious/nonprofits:
referrals welcomed but no violent history.
I would primarily be alone without aid:
help to community is what I prayed.
First helped homeless vet sleeping in woods:
then elder and two younger came on board.
I had no vehicle; volunteer returned to assist:
Social Services primarily introduce and enlist.
Shortly thereafter call bringing young man:
grandfather escorted; felt something amiss.
Overruled, thus following, evil personified:
he stabbed peer, then me, I almost died.
Mon Ami saved life, miraculous recovery:
42 stab lesions/eye blinded/coma two months.
Attacker said `father is devil’ sentenced 20 years:
prayed daily reclaim soul/not hurt others, my fears.
Irony, for I then became displaced losing home:
son/daughter rose above & beyond to succor me.
Rehabilitation surreal - hard nigh two decades:
Divine Ordnance blessed with phenomenal aides.
One after another doctors, nurses, new friends:
all synchronously and epiphanically appearing.
Son/Daughter rising above & beyond to care:
blessing me to rehabilitate, write, and share.
Nonprofit founded continues in Lilliputian way:
educational resources published complimentary.
Helping any in need, homeless, addicted, … focus:
planting seeds cultivating become beautiful crocus.
