ARC

My ancestors are Greek, Jewish, Catholic, Sicilian -
they arrived Ellis Island 1880s thru Nineteen Tens.
Prejudice, poverty, despair were anguished greetings –
huddled in groups similar to own making friends.

Stonemason maternal grandfather passed for Irish –
`Big Mike’ worked in Pennsylvania coal mines.
They experienced WWI and pandemic of 1918 –
agonizing plight of depression times.

Uncles and Cousin Served World War II –
pair returned, other crossed over to paradise.
Holocaust kith and kin horror defines evil zenith –
Anne Frank’s witness graphic reality of immoral vice.

Bonhoeffer, Bartali, Schlinder, Teresa, Ten-Boom...-
honorable throughout history role modeled outstanding.
Contemporary scourge is call for spiritual activism –
imitate righteous ancestors: love/help kith/kin lamenting.###

The world is in crisis with pandemic virus:
it is exponentially spreading with no cure.
Adults susceptible; seniors especially vulnerable:
store shelves emptied because of panic and fear.

As usual, the front line is medical profession:
first responders are humanity’s heroes that soar.
They see up front, close and personal, the ill:
expertise magnifies their espirit de corps.

History is replete with crisis examples of dread:
wars, depression, illness, nature’s fury, poverty.
Niece Michelle recently shared tidings on earth hour*.
March 28/8:30-9:30 lights out blessing nature solidarity.

Daily I pray for kith and kin, near and far:
family, friends, neighbors, associates, one/all.
May God’s divine grace bless you/yours:
comfort/embrace you like a rainbow shawl.
